Pumpkins In The City Walking Tour
Fall is almost here and Silver Dollar City is preparing for its biggest, brightest Harvest Festival yet! By day and by night, there is so much to explore including handcrafted goods from some of the nation’s most talented artisans and brand-NEW culinary creations featuring the season’s most vibrant flavors. Thousands of pumpkins in all the hues of autumn adorn planters, paths and porches throughout the park, setting the stage for fall adventure.
When the sun sets, The City’s Pumpkin Pathway is illuminated with the warm glow of hand carved lit pumpkins and whimsical larger-than-life sculptures leading the way to a nighttime party in the Pumpkin Plaza. This season, the event is bigger than ever with an All-NEW Area stretching from the Woodland Hike to NEW Rivertown! Plus, you’ll enjoy night rides on Silver Dollar City’s over 40 thrilling rides and attractions along the way!
The experience begins on The City’s Square with photo ops including a stacked nearly 2-story pumpkin tree. Sunset is a great time to grab a golden hour shot with friends and loved ones. Here you’ll also find a variety of delicious meal and snack options to begin your evening adventure. Check out our Fall Food Guide to chart your culinary tour of the park.
After the sun sets head to the right down Valley Road to continue the journey. As you stroll along, you’ll meet the first of numerous charming pumpkin icons paying homage to our Master Craftsmen including a blacksmith, candy maker and glass blower as well as the debonair Time Traveler® greeter. You’ll also notice that as you explore each location the expertly-carved pumpkins in the flowerbeds and along the roofs of the buildings are perfectly themed to match the character of their environment – a delightful feature that is present throughout the Pumpkins In The City experience.
Once you reach the Makers’ Market, you’ll be welcomed by the Pumpkin Portal, a festive archway inviting you to discover even more incredible sights and sounds. Cheerful pumpkin festoon lights soar overhead as you make your way to the Red Gold Courtyard. During the day and into the afternoon, you can marvel at demonstrations from master pumpkin carvers and explore demonstrating craftsmen in the Makers’ Market. You’ll also encounter the 30 ft-tall Pumpkin Greeter crafted and adorned by our very own team of expert pumpkin carvers.
Then, you’re on your way to explore The Grand Exposition. Filled with 10 family rides that will thrill guests of all ages, The Grand Exposition also features a collection of 4 fanciful oversized pumpkin icon sculptures including a totem of friendly bats, a not-so-scary spider, a happy cat and a welcoming owl and mini-totems of stacked happy pumpkin faces, owls and more.
From the Grand Exposition, you’ll enter the Pumpkin Plaza that opens its gates at 5:30pm each evening, the perfect setting for a pumpkin party! Giant inflatable scarecrows dance as guests browse glow gear, enjoy face painting and balloon art and get photos with Pumpkin Pals, Peter & Penelope. Snack shacks feature delectable fall treats including Waffle Cones, Caramel Apples, Apple Dumplings and more. The Plaza Stage showcases special entertainment from the boys of Prince Ivan complete with dance parties each hour!
When you’ve explored the Pumpkin Plaza, make your way to the Woodland Hike, a gently winding path lined with even more intricately carved pumpkins featuring adorable woodland creatures and scenes evoking the outdoors and nature.
As you exit the Woodland Hike and round the corner to the right, you’ll spy a friendly face ready to greet you from the roof of Lucky’s Toys – a brand-NEW Lucky The Rescue Dog® pumpkin sculpture. Lucky is the first new creation you’ll encounter as you discover the All-NEW expansion.
In Rivertown, the NEW family adventure Mystic River Falls® gets the pumpkin treatment with water rafting-themed carvings while happy bats smile down from the rooftop and eves of the Riverfront Playhouse. At NEW Rivertown Smokehouse, a trio of barnyard animals stacked atop one another- a cow, pig and chicken - lookout from above. Even more pumpkin festoon lighting shines down from overhead and special up-lighting in the colors of the season embrace the river channel and lift tower of the ride. Mystic River Falls is open through October 30 (weather permitting) so you can still experience The Tallest Drop On A Raft Ride In The Western Hemisphere!
Another All-NEW feature in Rivertown that can be enjoyed by day or night is the Garden of Giants – real half-ton pumpkins grown by master gardeners right here in the USA! Stop by to marvel at these homegrown beauties, with whimsical names like “Mighty Mabel” and “Gus The Great”, before heading off to enjoy the rest of the park and rides like Outlaw Run®, WildFire® and more!
Of course, if you prefer to experience those thrills first, you can always reverse course and start your Pumpkins In The City adventure in NEW Rivertown. The choice is yours!
