Silver Dollar City & MoonPie Team Up to Celebrate Sweet Tradition of the Mining Life
October 01, 2026
OZARK MOUNTAINS, Mo. (Oct. 1, 2026) — Silver Dollar City and MoonPie are teaming up for a sweet new partnership rooted in American mining history, bringing the iconic treat into the story of Miner’s Mountain Express, Silver Dollar City’s new family coaster opening in spring 2027.
The multi-year collaboration brings together two family-owned companies with deep roots in tradition and storytelling. Guests will discover MoonPie woven into the attraction, treats throughout the park and a custom Silver Dollar City flavor. The partners also plan to celebrate MoonPie’s 110th anniversary by attempting to create the World’s Largest MoonPie.
The connection between MoonPie and mining goes back more than a century.
As the story goes, a Kentucky coal miner told a traveling bakery salesman he wanted something filling for his lunch pail that was “as big as the moon.” That request helped inspire MoonPie, the beloved treat made with graham crackers, marshmallow and chocolate.
Now, that sweet piece of history is finding a new chapter in The Heart of the Ozarks.
Miner’s Mountain Express is inspired by the real Marble Cave Mining Company that operated on the Silver Dollar City property beginning in the 1880s. The attraction sends families racing through rugged Ozarks terrain in search of a long-lost passage to Marvel Cave, following the path of prospectors who came to these hills chasing a dream underground.
“Here in the Ozarks, we believe the best stories are the ones worth passing down,” said Nick Guevel, VP of marketing for Silver Dollar City Parks & Resorts. “Miner’s Mountain Express gives us the opportunity to remember the miners who came to these hills chasing a dream. MoonPie has its own remarkable connection to mining life, and bringing the two together feels right at home at Silver Dollar City.”
As part of the partnership, Silver Dollar City bakers will work alongside the MoonPie team to attempt a Guinness World Records title for the World’s Largest MoonPie. A larger-than-life replica will later be displayed at Silver Dollar City as a photo opportunity for guests.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Silver Dollar City and bring MoonPie to life in a completely new way,” said Tory Johnston, MoonPie’s VP of sales and marketing. “From a new coaster to new treats and even a giant MoonPie, this partnership gives families a chance to experience a piece of our heritage while making some pretty sweet memories of their own.”
Approximately 150,000 Mini MoonPies are expected to be served annually throughout the park, including with kids meals at participating restaurants. Silver Dollar City will also create a signature MoonPie-inspired treat and, in 2027, unveil a custom Silver Dollar City MoonPie flavor inspired by the Ozarks.
